Borussia Dortmund v Internazionale Live Commentary & Result, 05/11/2019, UEFA Champions League

34′ A mistake by De Vrij allows Brandt to tee up Hazard 20 yards from goal. The winger goes for the strike on his right foot, but Handanovic gets down to make a comfortable stop.

32′ Godin has been in the right place to make a vital interception to prevent Gotze latching on to Hakimi’s offload in the box.

31′ Hazard sees two crosses into the box cleared by the Inter defence. The German outfit are getting into the right positions, but are not producing enough quality on the round ball.

30′ Hakimi gets the better of Skriniar down the right flank and the defender brings him down on the edge of the box. He goes into the book for his challenge.

29′ BLOCK! Candreva wins a corner down the right flank and he whips a delivery into the box. Dortmund clear the first round ball, but Biraghi’s follow-up causes problems. Lukaku collects with his back to goal and then turns to fire at goal, but Akinji has been well placed to make the block.

28′ It has been a frenetic contest, which appears to be suiting the visitors more than Dortmund 28 minutes into the match.

25′ Dortmund bit back with a surge into the box through Hazard, but he just cannot find space for a strike at goal before De Vrij dispossesses Schulz with a well-timed challenge.

23′ OFF THE POST! Lukaku collects in acres of space from Vecino’s pass and shapes to shoot towards goal. He bends his effort around Burki, but it cannons off the post. The effort would not have counted anyway as the Belgian was well offside.

21′ Dortmund are cut open down the left flank and Skriniar lifts a cross into the box that deflects towards Martinez. He cannot connect on his strike before Brozovic takes over and lifts a chip harmlessly wide of the right post.

20′ OVER! Brandt lines up a strike from distance with not a lot of options in the final third. However, the midfielder can only blast his attempt over the bar.

18′ SAVE! Hakimi collects in space down the right flank and he cuts the round ball back towards Gotze. The German takes one touch to control before pulling the trigger on his strike. Handanovic gets down to make a good reaction stop, but the round ball bounces out into the box. Schulz attacks it with a header from 10 yards, only to place his effort wide of the target.

17′ Inter clear their lines from the corner and break on the counter. Brozovic releases Martinez down the right and he works a pass towards Barella. He looks for the return, but Schulz has been there to head back to Burki.

16′ Dortmund probe down the right flank and Hakimi has a dart at Biraghi, winning a corner off the legs of the defender.

14′ Sancho finds space in the right inside channel to latch on to Weigl’s round ball over the top, but he can only steer his cross into the hands of Handanovic.

13′ Hazard has a dart down the left flank for the home side, but his offload for the run of Brandt has been intercepted by Godin.

11′ Gotze almost turns the round ball into the path of Brandt in the box. It loops up for the midfielder to strike, but it will not sit down in time for him and De Vrij has been on hand to boot it away.

9′ Vecino tries to press Weigl in the middle of the park and he almost gains possession, but the referee deems that he fouled the Dortmund midfielder.

7′ Dortmund have to respond now, although Inter can now afford to sit deep and play on the counter, which will make them very dangerous.

5′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! MARTINEZ FIRES INTER AHEAD!!!!! 1-0!!!! The Argentine hits the home side on the break and finishes in style to put his team in the lead. Akinji misses a header at the back and it allows Martinez to collect and surge down the right flank. He beats the challenge of Hummels and cuts inside into the right inside channel. Martinez has Lukaku in support, but he goes alone and strikes his effort into the top right corner on his left foot. A fine finish.

3′ Skriniar blocks off the run of Sancho in the middle of the pitch and avoids a booking. Inter have made a sloppy start to the contest.

1′ Biraghi sticks out a leg to stop Hakimi breaking past him down the right flank and goes into the book.

1′ We’re underway at Signal Iduna Park.

This will be Borussia Dortmund’s third home European match against Inter – they won neither of their previous two, drawing 2-2 in April 1964 in the European Cup and losing 3-1 in March 1994 in the UEFA Cup.

There are three changes for Inter from their win over Brescia at the weekend. Godin returns to the backline to replace Baston, who drops to the bench. Candreva starts at right wing-back ahead of Lazaro, while Vecino comes into the side in the middle of the park for Roberto Gagliardini.

Favre has made five changes to his side from their win over Wolfsburg last time out. Gotze comes into the side to lead the line, while Burki has been recalled between the sticks. Sancho, Schulz and Witsel also gets starts this evening.

Inter are entering the contest with momentum on their side after their comeback win over Brescia at the weekend. They closed the gap to Juventus at the top of Serie A as Romelu Lukaku scored late from the penalty spot to secure the three points on the road. Antonio Conte’s men now turn their attention back to the Champions League where they need to build on their victory over the German outfit. Another solid performance has been required to keep them on course of qualification for the next phase of the competition.

Tonight has been an important match for Dortmund to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of Inter in their last meeting. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Antonio Candreva secured the win for the Italian outfit in San Siro, moving them above Lucien Favre’s men in Group F. Dortmund have been in solid form since their defeat, reeling off back-to-back wins in their last two outings to defeat Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg, but they need to be on their mettle against Inter.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Inter at Signal Iduna Park.
