Manchester City v Atalanta Live Commentary & Result, 22/10/2019, UEFA Champions League


Right, the players are on their way out, and we’re almost ready for kick-off. Will the City machine roll on, or do the Italians have a surprise up their sleeves?

These sides have never met competitively before, but Atalanta do have previous in England. Two years ago, they beat Everton home and away in the Europa League group stage, including a 5-1 win at Goodison Park.

Atalanta also make four changes from their last game, a 3-3 draw at Lazio. Djimsiti, Castagne, de Roon and Ilicic come into the starting line-up, with Jose Palomino, Pasalic, Hateboer and Muriel dropping out.

Rodri and Fernandinho continue at the back for City, who make four changes from the team that beat Crystal Palace. Aguero, Mahrez, Foden and Walker come in for Jesus, the two Silvas and Cancelo. Otamendi and Stones both on the bench.

SUBS: Claudio Bravo, John Stones, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Nicolas Otamendi.

MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, Rodri, Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy; Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne; Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling.

With wins over Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk under their belts, City are looking to maintain a 100 per cent record in Europe so far this season. Champions League debutants Atalanta, meanwhile, are still looking for their first point after conceding a 95th-minute winner against Shakhtar last time out.
